Understanding the Draft

Draft Types

PickStrongAthlete offers three draft formats:

  • Snake Draft: The draft order reverses each round (1st to last, then last to 1st)
  • Auction Draft: Each manager has a budget to bid on players
  • Auto-Pick Draft: Players are automatically selected based on pre-draft rankings

Building a Balanced Team

A standard roster includes:

  • 1 Quarterback (QB)
  • 2 Running Backs (RB)
  • 2 Wide Receivers (WR)
  • 1 Tight End (TE)
  • 1 Flex (RB/WR/TE)
  • 1 Defense/Special Teams (DST)
  • 1 Kicker (K)
  • 6 Bench spots

Focus on building a balanced team with depth at each position. Don`t overload on one position while neglecting others.

Weekly Management

Set Your Lineup

Each week, you`ll need to set your lineup before games begin. Consider matchups, injuries, and bye weeks when making your selections.

Waiver Wire

The waiver wire allows you to claim unowned players. Waiver priority is determined by your league settings (typically reverse standings order or FAAB bidding).

Trading

You can propose trades to other managers in your league. Trades require mutual agreement and may be subject to league review.

Monitor Injuries

Stay updated on player injuries and statuses. The app provides real-time notifications for injury updates affecting your roster.

Scoring and Winning

Understanding Matchups

Each week, your team will compete against another team in your league in a head-to-head matchup. The team with the most points wins the weekly matchup.

Regular Season

The fantasy regular season typically runs from Week 1 through Week 14 of the NFL season.

Playoffs

The top teams advance to the playoffs (typically Weeks 15-17). Playoff brackets are single-elimination, with the highest-scoring teams advancing each round.

Championships

The last week of the fantasy season (usually Week 17) is championship week, where the final two teams compete for the league title.

Advanced Strategies

Streaming Positions

“Streaming” refers to rotating players at certain positions (typically QB, TE, DST, or K) based on favorable matchups rather than sticking with the same player all season.

Handcuffing

Drafting a starting running back`s backup (his “handcuff”) as insurance against injury.

FAAB Budgeting

If your league uses FAAB (Free Agent Acquisition Budget), strategically allocate your budget throughout the season. Don`t spend too much too early.

Bye Week Planning

When drafting, consider player bye weeks to ensure you won`t have too many starters out in the same week.

Tips for Success

  • Stay Active: Check your team daily for injury updates and news.
  • Don`t Overreact: Don`t panic after one bad week from a star player.
  • Play the Matchups: Consider starting players with favorable matchups, even if they`re not your highest-rated players.
  • Use the Waiver Wire: Be aggressive in picking up breakout players.
  • Think Long-Term: Balance immediate needs with long-term potential.
  • Trust Your Gut: Sometimes instinct beats statistical analysis.
